How can we stop time? August came in with a fury and the days are flying by. I am not ready to say goodbye to summer so soon. We have been in birthday mode around here, celebrating Carter turning nine and Owen turning seven. Always hard to believe when I think back to how fast time has gone. The boys are not so little any more… Around here birthdays are a big deal. It was something that we began to do when the kids were little, celebrating BIG! Sometimes it is a bit over the top but birthdays have always been a bonding time with my kids, planning, researching the perfect cake and creating our own invites and maybe even decorations. Birthdays have given me a fun creative outlet. Allowing the boys to select a few freinds to to share in their day has also allowed myself and Bob to spend time with their friends and observe our kids interacting with their peers. We love it and often have preferred the parties where Bob and I have many kids her at our house and we simply play!
Here is a look at the big Chemistry bash we had at a local college this past week. We have family who are close with the professor of the Chemistry department. He was amazing and the kids could not stop talking about all the fire in their hands and the many experiments they were a part of. It was good stuff and even Owen payed careful attention to learn what might happen next.
Watching Carter grow is a joy and realizing he is entering fourth grade already gives me butterflies. He has been such a supportive and fun big brother, always entering the house and seeking Ava to say, “hey sweetie.” This boy is a charmer. His smile and incredilbly goofy humor are always contagious.
Oh yes we interrupt this post to show a new diablo move… never a dull moment with the diablos flying around. They have been the hit of the summer and all three boys play them for hours- even the neighbors join in. Some days my driveway feels like a full blown circus!
Next came Owen’s big day and it is truly hard to believe this child is seven. Whew! Precious Owen has turned several corners this year, maturing in ways we love to see. I prayed many a days for my sanity with this blue eyed boy and we now have days where I can count on him to be the most loving and respectful little dude. He works hard to interact with Ava and many days she is a bit unsure but for the most part Owen has risen to the role of big bro. He is a funny kid and a couple of weeks ago his Springhill Camp counselors gave him the award of being steadfast. I nearly burst out laughing as their choice could not have been more accurate. Channeling his steadfast nature and constant energy is never easy but we will continue to pray for his steadfast ways. Help me God to know how to encourage and guide this dear boy through the many stages of boyhood. Owen you bring light and laughter with all your silly antics. Happy Birthday!
We are richly blessed by three boys and these three have the market cornered on action, constant motion, high energy and living each day to it’s fullest. They keep us hopping and we are praying each day that we are properly equipped to handle each new phase of their lives. Now back to figuring how how to stop time….
Have a great week!
